2024 Qld State Championships

David’s Coach Reports

Tuesday – Day 4

A mid week marathon day at the pool on day four with events ranging from the 50m free to the 800m free.

Humid conditions increased the challenge as we approach the half way point of the meet.

Highlights included:

A massive best time and Bronze Medley for Noah Arkanspul in the 19yrs and over 100m Butterfly

A composed and calmly executed Silver for Oscar Eddy in the Boys 17yrs 100m Breaststroke

A 8th place for Julian Angus in the Boys 15yrs 50m Freestyle – particularly pleasing after tackling the 800m Freestyle shortly prior.

Special mention to Tyler Hallal who tackled three events in the morning – making significant improvements in all three. Fantastic focus and positive attitude.

Time to rest, reset, refocus and rehydrate – there is a lot of swimming still to come this week!

Monday – Day 3

A very exciting day of competition and a number of brilliant swims at a hot and humid Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

Training partners Mason Mower and Julian Angus both made the final of the Boys 200m Butterfly 15yrs. In a high quality field both executed races with composure. Julian getting on the podium for Bronze and Mason finishing 8th.

This was swiftly followed with another double final as Will Sutcliffe and Tomo Shadforth secured Bronze and 4th respectively in the Boys 17yrs 200m Backstroke – both Boys making significant improvements in time.

Cooper Jones experienced his first Qld State final in the 12yrs 200m Backstroke – a cracking effort finishing 9th – even more impressive after recently recovering from a broken arm.

Oscar Eddy was the next on the podium – claiming Gold in the Boys 17yrs 400m Medley – a fantastic achievement.

On a bust night of finals Maya Jones finished 6th in the Girls 14yrs 800m Freestyle and Christopher Kalogeropoulos finished 10th in the Boys 16yrs 100m Breaststroke.

A quick breather and we get to go again tomorrow – cant wait!

Sunday -Day 2

The individual events begin in earnest and the Swimmers have to switch from Team focus yesterday to tunnel vision focus on their individual process and block out the many distractions.

Team TSS was excellent in that regard yesterday, calm and concentrated we kept focus on the our own process, our own execution and controlled the controllables. All finalists swam faster from morning heat to night final – another nod to focus on process.

Special mention to Ash and Tyler for making their first ever Qld State finals – fantastic achievement and great composure to overcome the nerves and swim faster again.

Highlights included:

Matthew K Bronze Boys 17yrs 200m Butterfly
Ash Heal 4th Girls 16yrs 200m Butterfly
Julian Angus 7th Boys 15yrs 200m Freestyle
Tyler Hallal 8th Boys 14yrs 100m Butterfly
